Education for health professionals

Education plays an important role in Medicare Australia’s approach to managing the integrity of the programs we administer. The focus of our education is explaining Medicare and PBS requirements to health care providers.

Online education

Medicare and You – e-Learning for new health care professionalsExternal link
This is a self-paced e-Learning program for all new health care professionals that aims to:

  • make it easier for health professionals to access Medicare education
  • improve confidence in using the Medicare Benefits Schedule, and
  • increase awareness of associated rules and regulations.

The program is easy to use, interactive and case based. There are seven modules–each with multiple topics that will take between five and 20 minutes to complete. To get the most out of this training you will need to actively participate in the e-Learning activities.

Medicare and You - Online learning for rural and remote health care professionalsExternal link
This is an online learning program developed in partnership with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and is hosted by Rural and Remote Medical Education Online (RRMEO). It offers a range of topics relevant to your daily practice presented in an interactive, case-based and user friendly format with accreditation for three ACRRM professional development program points upon completion. Education is available to registered users of RRMEOExternal link 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

PriMeD - Online PBS education for experienced health care providersExternal link
These PBS education units are designed to give you current information essential to your practice in convenient 15 minute bytes.  The program is accessible online anytime, is offered free of charge and is accredited for Royal Australian College of General Practitioners continuing professional development points and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine professional development program points.

PBS and You - Online PBS education for new health care providers
As a prescriber, you need to know your responsibilities when you prescribe a medicine under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). The PBS and You is a self paced program that will help you prescribe according to PBS requirements. It supplements existing face-to-face introductory sessions offered by Medicare Australia.
