Hearing Services
The Australian Government provides hearing services and products to eligible people under the Hearing Services Program
administered by the Office of Hearing Services at the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA)
.
Medicare Australia administers the claim payment system for the program and provides payments for services and products to accredited hearing service providers.
In excess of 90 per cent of providers now lodge their claims for payment directly to Medicare Australia electronically using the e-claim facility, which provides a more accurate and streamlined payment service.
Hearing Services Program
Medicare Australia began processing hearing service claims on behalf of OHS in November 1997.
To expedite payment to service providers Medicare Australia introduced an e-Claiming facility in 1999. This electronic facility provides for claims to be submitted to Medicare Australia through its website, and because of increased efficiencies its use continues to grow, with over 90 per cent of all claims being processed in this medium.
