What is a capability framework?
A capability framework describes the capabilities and behaviours that are needed as we deliver broader and more complex programs. It provides a menu of the broad capabilities required by our people.
Mapping such a framework allows us to understand what skills, attributes and qualities we require now and in the future. This helps inform the attraction and selection, development, performance support and retention of our people and in turn assists our people to better understand their development and broader career needs.
The framework also assists in workforce planning and the development of a positive service culture. Capabilities are not intended to 'value' the work you do as they are always applied in the context of the role you perform. The value of a position is determined by a number of other indicators (complexity of role, scope, breadth of relationships, etc).

A simple table that shows a broad overview of the capabilities. It allows you to navigate the framework itself viewing the capabilities and their descriptors.
These can be viewed in two ways
- an individual view showing the capabilities, descriptors and behaviours expected at particular classifications
- a comparative view showing the capabilities and descriptors across the APS, Executive and SES levels
